No Mobile Wallet from Apple…yet, and other newsworthy notes from Apple’s Worldwide Developers Conference

While the iWallet (or whatever Apple ends up calling its mobile payments application) didn’t appear in Tim Cook’s “Oh and one more thing” portion of his presentation this week,  I still think Apple has continued positioning itself to jump into the mobile payments landscape, though we will likely have to wait until the fall or whenever Apple chooses to introduce the next iteration of the iPhone.

As I sat in the airport last Friday night, I took stock of the waiting area. Of the 31 people in my direct line of sight spread out among the seats, only three were not actively operating a mobile device.  Of the 29 engaged with a device, three people (myself included) had both their smartphone and laptop in use and were simultaneously moving back and forth between the two.
